Ciscoe Morris’ Bio

Ciscoe Morris is a longtime horticulturist. Shortly after moving to Seattle, he decided to study horticulture. While attending horticulture classes and for a time after, Ciscoe worked for a variety of landscape companies. He specialized in everything from garden design and installation to tall tree pruning. In 1978, he began his position at Seattle University as Director of Grounds Care.

During his 24 years Ciscoe at Seattle University, he developed one of the nation’s first pesticide free gardening programs at a University Campus. Due to his efforts, Seattle University was the first Campus in the State of Washington designated as a wild life sanctuary by the State Department of Wildlife.

While at Seattle U., Ciscoe was awarded the King County Earth Hero Award, and the University won the top national EPA Environmental Award during his final two years there. Other awards include the B.Y. Morrison Communications Award from the American Horticultural Society (AHS), the WSNLA Educator of the Year, Seattle University Service, Alumni of the Year from South Seattle Community College, and the Master Gardener Media Award.

Ciscoe’s educational credentials include an AA degree in horticulture from South Seattle Community College and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Seattle University. He has been a long time Master Gardener, an International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist, and a Washington State Nursery and Landscape Association Certified Horticulturist. Ciscoe also taught horticulture courses at Edmonds Community College.

Ciscoe’s media career began over 30 years ago when he began hosting Gardening with Ciscoe, a live call in gardening radio show. His first TV show began in the early 90’s. It was called Northwest Home and Garden and was hosted by Jeff Probst, better known today for his starring role on the TV show Survivor. After a 6 year run on that show, KIRO TV chose Ciscoe to do a short garden segment during the Noon News Show once a week. He then did a short stint on a show called Inside Line and appeared on Hour Northwest. He made several appearances on HGTV’s Gardening by the Yard and Home Grown Cooking. His show Gardening with Ciscoe with Meeghan Black began in 2001. Around the same time his show Gardening with Ciscoe Live began broadcasting throughout the Northwest and beyond on the Northwest Cable News Network. Currently Ciscoe appears frequently on King5 in Seattle: New Day Northwest, the news, and Evening.

Ciscoe’s newest book Oh, La La was released in January, 2020. His book, Ask Ciscoe, was a huge success and was a top selling garden book. He also co‐authored two books, Beautiful Roses Made Easy: Northwestern Edition and Selecting, Growing, and Combining Outstanding Perennials: Northwestern Edition, published by Jackson & Perkins. For 17 years, Ciscoe wrote a weekly gardening column for the newspaper: He began with the Seattle Post Intelligencer; then switched to the Seattle Times when the Seattle PI ended their print edition.

Besides writing, hosting radio and appearing on T.V., Ciscoe gives garden presentations, leads overseas garden tours, and is busy in his home garden, offering visits to raise money for good causes.
