PlantAmnesty Plant Walk: Kubota Garden w/ Don Brooks
May 11
$40.00Member Price $30
Join PlantAmnesty for a very special walk around Kubota Garden with Don Brooks. There are two available time slots available for this walk.
Not only will these be fundraising opportunities to support our programs, but they will be intimate plant identification walks at some of Seattle’s most beloved gardens and greenspaces. We are also happily giving away a special star jasmine plant to each attendee, propagated from the Cass Turnbull Memorial Garden.
Learn helpful plant identification tips, hear fascinating stories about the plants, and meet other plant-minded members of the community!
Don Brooks’ Bio
Don Brooks, retired head gardener of Seattle Parks & Recreation’s Kubota Garden for 30 years, worked alongside and learned from Tom Kubota, son of the garden’s founder Fujitaro Kubota.
Don Brooks grew up in the mountains of NE Washington state among trees and sawmills. After moving to Seattle, he began his horticultural life in the Edmonds Community College program. A summer as a seasonal worker in the Carl English Gardens at the Ballard Locks convinced him that public gardening was the way to go. A few years later, he began a 32-year career with the Seattle Parks Department, with the last 30 of those at Kubota Garden.
Don continues to be passionate about gardening. His north end garden is a regular stop for tours organized by local plant organizations such as The Northwest Perennial Alliance and numerous garden clubs. He is generous in helping others with their gardens, including contributing to the Cass Turnbull Garden in several significant ways. When he isn’t gardening, you’ll most likely find Don in the mountains skiing, hiking and climbing.
