2027 ProHort Master Pruner Workshop Packages
A First for ProHort Students
These special workshop weekend packages are designed to help students of our Master Pruner ProHort lecture series complete their two Renovation Workshops required for the Master Pruner Certificate quickly and register easily.
Select only ONE weekend when registering at the bottom of this page. See site descriptions below. Workshops are not canceled due to rain.
We do not know how rapidly these will sell out. We encourage you to register within a few days of receiving your link.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS
-
In addition to these weekend workshops, a third workshop is required to complete the series.
That workshop can either be another Renovation workshop or a specialty workshop like Japanese maples, fruit tree, Japanese pines, hedging, etc.
-
Completing a pruning class as part of an accredited Horticulture program (South Seattle, Edmonds, LWIT, or similar), counts for one Master Pruner workshop, either Reno or specialty.
Contact educationprograms@plantamnesty with relevant class information (school, date, class title) to have this information entered into our tracking database. -
The prerequisite classes (Tree Pruning I and II, Shrubs I and II, and Renovate and Prune the Overgrown Landscape), must be completed to be eligible for the workshop weekend.
If these specific classes were not attended, the weekend workshop registration will be refunded and cancelled.
AVAILABLE OPTIONS
-
Saturday’s workshop will be held at the historically significant Carl S English Gardens, located at the Chittenden Locks (aka Ballard Locks) in NW Seattle.
Sunday’s workshop will be held on private property in Lake Forest Park, just north of Seattle. A wide variety of overgrown trees and shrubs will provide unique pruning challenges. -
Saturday’s workshop will be held on private property in Normandy Park, south of Seattle. A once elegantly designed landscape showcases overplanting and a variety of plants.
Sunday’s workshop will be held in West Seattle on private property that has recently been awarded arboretum status. Established trees and shrubs will require a thoughtful approach.
How It Works
Small groups of students will rotate between stations within the property to get time with different instructors on different plant materials. There will be discussions and demonstrations, followed by hands-on practice. We aim for a ratio of 3:1 - 4:1 students:instructors for our workshops, allowing ample time for questions and one-on-one coaching.
Further details about each weekend will be sent to registrants in February. If you are not based in the general Seattle area and want assistance finding an appropriate place to stay while in town, please reach out to educationprograms@plantamnesty.org. We may also be able to help find rides if you prefer to not rent a car or use public transit. Note that not all sites will be readily accessible by public transit.
If both workshops have sold out, someone has registered for more spaces than permitted. Please contact educationprograms@plantamnesty.org if this appears to be the case.
