Please convene at the Wilcox Bridge over Lake Washington Boulevard (Located between the Graham Visitors Center and the West Arboretum Tot Lot at the foot of East Lynn Street)
The Pinetum features a diverse collection of conifers, and not just pines. In addition to familiar conifers, such as firs, pines, spruces, giant sequoias and redwoods, we will see less common trees such as Taiwan’s coffin tree (Taiwania cryptomerioides) and the California nutmeg (Torreya californica). Explore the fascinating world of conifers with Walt and Van.
Walt Bubelis is a horticulture professor emeritus at Edmonds College. His current activities include sitting on boards and committees, such as the UW Botanic Garden, Arboretum Bulletin, the Kruckeberg Garden, and the Edmonds College Horticulture program. Walt leads tours and gives classes for Plant Amnesty, Northwest Horticultural Society, Northwest Perennial Alliance, Seattle Garden Club, and the Dunn Garden. He is addicted to the Goddess Flora, as you can see!
Van Bobbitt taught horticulture at South Seattle College for 16 years. Prior to that, he worked at WSU Extension, the UW Center for Urban Horticulture, and other jobs in the landscape and nursery industry. He is coauthor of two books published by WSU Extension Publications: Pacific Northwest Integrated Pest Management Manual and Landscape Plant Problems: A Pictorial Diagnostic Manual. In 2014, Van received the Educator of the Year award from the Washington State Nursery & Landscape Association.
