Kruckeberg Botanic Gardens with Walt Bubelis and Van Bobbitt

  • Kruckeberg Botanical Garden 20312 15th Avenue Northwest Shoreline, WA, 98177 United States (map)

Van and Walt will take you through this remarkable garden pointing out some of their favorite trees (and maybe a shrub or two) that the Kruckebergs planted along the way. The garden is rich in conifers but also has an impressive collection of oaks along with numerous Southern Hemisphere plants. We’ll walk down the recently installed aerial boardwalk (ADA accessible) to the lower garden where there are specialty groupings such as serpentine beds, native plants and an small pond. Afterwards, take advantage of the nursery plants on sale!

Walt Bubelis is a horticulture professor emeritus at Edmonds College. His current activities include sitting on boards and committees, such as the UW Botanic Garden, Arboretum Bulletin, the Kruckeberg Garden, and the Edmonds College Horticulture program. Walt leads tours and gives classes for PlantAmnesty, Northwest Horticultural Society, Northwest Perennial Alliance, Seattle Garden Club, and the Dunn Garden. He is addicted to the Goddess Flora, as you can see!

Van Bobbitt taught horticulture at South Seattle College for 16 years. Prior to that, he worked at WSU Extension, the UW Center for Urban Horticulture, and other jobs in the landscape and nursery industry. He is coauthor of two books published by WSU Extension Publications: Pacific Northwest Integrated Pest Management Manual and Landscape Plant Problems:  A Pictorial Diagnostic Manual. In 2014, Van received the Educator of the Year award from the Washington State Nursery & Landscape Association. In retirement, Van has served on the Washington Native Plant Society’s board of directors, Birds Connect Seattle’s garden and facilities committees, and the garden advisory committee at the Kruckeberg Botanic Garden.

Note: Please convene in the parking lot. The parking is tight and if the lot and nearby street parking if full, the neighborhood block southward can be used. Please limit 2 tickets per order.

This walk is ADA accessible.
