Meeting of Like Minds — Seattle’s New Tree Protection Code — Make your voice heard

April 18 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm PDT

URGENT!!!

We have only a few days remaining after the dates of this MOLM to make our voices heard regarding amendments to Seattle’s new tree protection code. Learn about concerns and talking points from arborists and The Last 6000 representatives. This code will affect you if you live in the greater Seattle area, because it will affect Seattle canopy coverage, which is disappearing too rapidly.

Join the discussions on how higher housing density is not necessarily at odds with canopy preservation. Developers may try to convince us that we need to remove trees in order to build affordable housing, but that isn’t the case on every building lot.

Learn about concerns regarding current tree replacement requirements and how changes in the code could help guarantee survival of replacement trees.

And more!

Click here for more information about the ordinance, including analysis by various groups and talking points.

If you would like to have a designated time to present your thoughts and recommendations, please contact programs@plantamnesty with your request.

We will hold this MOLM at Magnuson Park in the central gathering area adjacent to our offices. Feel free to show up any time after 6:30 pm and expect presentations and structured discussions to start at 7 pm.

If you would like to partake in a potluck, bring a dish to share (a small/med microwave will available for reheating dishes). We will provide compostable plates, flatware, and napkins.

Expect a busy discussion period!

Members and non-members are welcome, with pre-registration encouraged but not required.  There is a small fee for non-members.

The evening will start with drinks and time to socialize, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.  After a short welcome at 7 pm, we will auction off some donated plants and garden-related tools and/or art. This auction helps cover the costs of hall rental. If you have items to donate toward this auction, please send relevant information to programs@plantamnesty.org.

PlantAmnesty will continue to encourage the use of masks when distancing is not feasible at indoor events, but masking and vaccination proof will not be required.

We are not asking for pre-registration for this event.  Come if you have time and interest! We will appreciate donations to support our efforts to bring awareness to the new tree code and its impacts on our canopy.

Not yet a member?  Join today to support this and other efforts to sustain and protect a healthy tree canopy!
