Meeting of Like Minds: Exploring Aesthetic Pruning with Maryann Lewis

February 18, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm PST

This event is FREE to ALL PlantAmnesty Members. If you have a friend who would be interested in becoming a member, bring them along too!

Maryann is a Certified Aesthetic pruner and California licensed architect. In 1999 she moved from Portland to California to further her architectural career where she discovered the world of aesthetic pruning. She completed the Merritt College Aesthetic Pruning classes and began her pruning business in 2005, specializing in long term tree development and design. In 2009 members of the Merritt College Pruning club gathered to form a professional association with the goal of promoting aesthetic pruning and supporting professional pruners in their work. Maryann was the chair of the exploratory committee and became a founding board member of the Aesthetic Pruners Association.

In this lecture, we will take a deep dive into the world of aesthetic pruning with the goal of looking at our garden trees with new purpose, inspiration and possibilities. Maryann will share how she came to discover aesthetic pruning at Merritt College in Oakland California and how living in an urban environment inspired her to see trees through new eyes. We will take a brief look at humble pruning techniques that can have a big impact if used with a long-term plan and thoughtful design intent. There will be plenty of time for questions and a short pruning demonstration.
