from 10 am to noon

Sunday, May 11, 2008 - Difficult Plants to Prune

This class teaches how to prune Rhododendron, Hydrangea, Callicarpa (Beautyberry), Viburnum bodnantense and Abelia. Included in this class are basic pruning techniques, common pruning mistakes and corrective pruning. This class is part of the Master Pruner Seminar Series.

Sunday, June 8, 2008 - Rehabilitative Pruning for Previously Mal-pruned Plants

This class covers the three most common forms of mal-pruning (tree topping, over-thinning of trees and shrubs, and inappropriate shearing) and how to fix trees and shrubs which have been mal-pruned. This is an advanced course and those attending should already be familiar with principles of selective pruning. Included is discussion of water-sprouts, suckers, radical renovation techniques, and crown restoration. This class is part of the Master Pruner Seminar Series.

Saturday, June 28, 2008 - 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
PlantAmnesty's Garden Renovation Workshop

The Renovation Workshop is a popular hands-on all-day event that features a rare 3:1 student-teacher ratio and real-world experience. Pruning and creative solutions to the overgrown garden will be taught as an entire yard is renovated during the class. The day begins with a slide-show lecture followed by hands-on experience out in the yard. Topics discussed will be pruning, transplanting, and landscape maintenance. The group will move through an over-grown landscape while on-the-spot evaluations of plants and demonstrations of pruning are given. Workshop participants will then cycle between jobs to learn what the landscape has to offer.

The workshop takes place at a private residence within King County selected for its neglected state and diverse plant material so as to provide class instruction on a wide variety of topics. A pruning DVD and handouts on various pruning topics will be provided to all participants. Cost is $65.00 for PlantAmnesty members; $75.00 for non-members. Registration is required. Download and send in your registration.

Sunday, July 13, 2008 - Tree Pruning 2

Beyond basic tree pruning is a world of related tree information that is not generally known to the public. This class presents the basics of Hazard Tree Evaluation (same as Risk Assessment), construction damage to trees, and rehabilitative pruning for previously mal-pruned trees. The pruning of some specific trees will be covered – magnolia trees, ornamental crabapple, cherry and purple-leafed plum trees.

Sunday, October 12, 2008 - 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
PlantAmnesty's Japanese Garden Pruning Workshop

A brand new Japanese Garden Pruning class and hands-on workshop will be held at Kubota Gardens. Cloud pruning of pines, Japanese maple pruning, tamamono, and bamboo pruning will be covered. Cost is $65.00 for PlantAmnesty members; $75.00 for non-members. Download and send in your registration.
